One way or the other, we need to try and keep the monument intact. Someday, it may be found by an advanced species.

Hopefully the laptop that was supposed to be buried underneath it isn't in an aluminum enclosure as well.

Aluminum is actually very prone to corrosion. However, aluminum corrosion is aluminum oxide, a very hard material that actually protects the aluminum from further corrosion. My thinking was more on the scale of time CCP expects this monument to be around. The anodizing is a layer of ceramic like material on the surface that should replace the oxidizing effect in salt air. But again, i was thinking of the long term expectations.
